In partnership with Oxfam Novib, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) worked to improve the management of capture fisheries and conservation of aquatic biodiversity in the Mekong river in Laos by emphasising the role of women in natural resources management. The project developed the leadership role of women groups in Fisheries Management Committees and acknowledged their role in conservation by increasing alternatives for household food and income security.
“It was an enlightening experience for me to observe the ingenious, sustainable ways that the Lao villages and World Wildlife Fund-Laos (WWF) have put in place to promote women-led sustainable livelihood activities, natural resources management and the preservation of aquatic natural resources along the Mekong River.”
